About Spirit Airlines
In 1964, the company was formed as Clippert Trucking Company. In 1974, the business was renamed Ground Air Transfer. Charter One Airlines, a Detroit-based charter tour operator offering travel packages to entertainment destinations such as Atlantic City, Las Vegas, and the Bahamas, was founded in 1983 in Macomb County, Michigan, by Ned Homfeld.
Jets were later introduced into the fleet from Detroit to Atlantic City and renamed itself Spirit Airlines. For the next few years, Spirit Airline flights were introduced on various new routes including Los Angeles and New York. Around 2001, regular Spirit Airline reservations were offered to destinations like San Huan & Puerto Rico. It was in fact the only Airline that registered profits during the recession of 2009. Spirit Airlines began charging for carry-on bags on August 1, 2010. Both the airline and its customers have benefited from Spirit Airlines' carry-on bag service. It has aided in the boarding process and reduced the airline's fuel consumption rate by ensuring that all carry-on bags have adequate overhead space.
The majority of Spirit Airlines reservations are made by leisure travelers who pay for their own tickets (rather than using a corporate expense account) and make their purchases based primarily on price. The airline sells tickets through its website, third-party travel agents, and a call center that is outsourced.
